Octavio Correa lived for years with symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH - also known as an enlarged prostate. His symptoms affected everyday life, including frequent urination, urgency, a weak stream and waking up at night.

In this patient story, Octavio shares how his symptoms progressed and how he found care with Rair Jose Valero Carrion, M.D., a urologist with Bethesda Hospital, a part of Baptist Health South Florida. Dr. Valero explains BPH, common symptoms and a robotic single-port STEP procedure, which stands for single-port transvesical enucleation of the prostate.

For some patients with severe prostate enlargement, this minimally invasive robotic procedure may help relieve urinary obstruction by removing the inner part of the prostate that is blocking urine flow.
