Coarctation of the aorta is a birth defect where a part of the aorta, the body's main artery, is narrowed. This narrowing, or coarctation, restricts blood flow and can cause the heart to work harder to pump blood to the rest of the body. It's a common congenital heart defect, often diagnosed in children or adults under 40.
