What is TPO Antibody?
TPO is enzyme essential for making thyroid hormones
Normal TPO antibody level is below 9 IU/mL
High levels indicate immune system attacking thyroid gland

High TPO Does NOT Mean Cancer
Only 10-20% of thyroid cancer patients have high TPO
Most people with elevated TPO never develop cancer
High TPO mainly indicates autoimmune thyroid disease

What High TPO Actually Means
Hashimoto thyroiditis autoimmune disease is main cause
Also seen in Graves disease causing overactive thyroid
10-15% of healthy people have elevated TPO antibodies

High TPO alone is not a cancer diagnostic test
Ultrasound needed if thyroid nodule is present
What You Should Do
Regular thyroid monitoring with TSH every 6-12 months
