Today I'll be addressing a topic which is similar to erectile dysfunction and causes erectile dysfunction but not exactly in erectile dysfunction. This is a condition called low libido. Libido is nothing but sex drive so a low libido means a low sex drive . We should differentiate it from erectile dysfunction in erectile dysfunction the libido may be normal but the person is unable to achieve a good erection. In low libido it is a sex drive itself which is low. Now what are the causes for low libido there are many causes in young as well as old low libido could be related to psychological issues. For example if our mind is distracted by our mundane day-to-day works and activities and other concerns, then sex comes quite low in the priority of things to do. For example if you're are undergoing a severe financial problem naturally the libido comes down. Libido is like any other body function, appetite, energy etc. So it is very easy to make out when you are under some severe stress even you don't feel like eating food also and your energy levels also dip. Similarly any stress which is significant decreases the libido as I enumerated in my other video the stress could be related to your job related to finance it could be interpersonal some privacy issues like unable to find a private space with your partner etc. Low libido apart from psychological causes could also be because of hormonal reasons. We know that sex hormone is necessary to maintain a normal sexual function in a male and this sex hormone is testosterone we have a normal level of testosterone in the body which is secreted by the test and the stimulus for this comes from some centers in the brain. If for some reason the production of testosterone is low then the libido also comes down. The problem could be in the level of the test which as I said produce testosterone or it could be in the level of the brain also which give a signal to the test to produce testosterone. So what can happen in the at the level of testis? We call it hypogonadism for example any chronic injury to the test or any major chronic illness which can lead to the damage to the testis can decrease the testosterone level. At the same time any CNS that is central nervous system or brain causes like for example it could be an organic lesion for example some injury to the brain or tumors in the brain or some vascular malformations. They affect the brain function and indirectly but not always. It doesn't mean that every time a person has some brain injury it affects the libido but I'm talking of some situations where those factors play a role and decrease the stimulation from the brain to the test and decrease testosterone level. The other cause for decreased libido at the brain level is psychiatric illnesses for example severe depression here the person is in a depression and he's under psychiatrist treatment or he's on medications for the same this also affects the libido of the person so as we know . Now understand libido could be multifactorial and the causes for decrease libido could be all these things. The question that people ask is can it be reversed by some improved diet well the answer is, as long as you maintain a healthy diet. As long as you are a healthy person libido is not affected by food which means to say for a person like me and many of the listeners and the viewers here who maintain a normal lifestyle and a normal diet libido is not dictated by what we eat. That means the food that we eat normally is enough to main our libido. If libido is decreased we have to search for other causes and treat that.
