Imugene Ltd managing director and CEO Leslie Chong talked with Proactive about new data from the company’s Phase 1b clinical trial of azer-cel in patients with relapsed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The company confirmed that all seven newly evaluated patients experienced either a complete or partial response, reinforcing prior results and demonstrating strong treatment durability.
Chong said the first patient ever dosed with azer-cel has now remained cancer-free for over 15 months, underscoring the drug’s potential in this aggressive cancer. “We are providing meaningful clearance of their cancer,” Chong told Proactive. The patient had previously failed four lines of therapy, including autologous CAR-T, and is now showing no sign of disease after monthly and follow-up checkups.
The company has observed durability beyond 15 months in several patients, with others approaching the one-year cancer-free mark. Chong highlighted the distinction between partial and complete responses in blood cancers, noting that partial responses still reflect a disease reduction of over 50%, which may improve with time.
Next steps include an end-of-year Type B meeting with the FDA to discuss pivotal registration studies. Imugene is also preparing to explore earlier lines of therapy, including patients who have not undergone autologous CAR-T treatment.
