Jen’s UTI story on Streptococcus and why identifying the bacteria matters.
Jen began experiencing recurring UTIs in her mid-30s. Despite frequent doctor visits and repeated antibiotic prescriptions, her UTIs persisted until her urine culture revealed Streptococcus bacteria in her bladder and she was prescribed a different antibiotic, finally bringing her some relief. Jen was surprised by Streptococcus being the source of her infections as she believed that most UTIs are caused by E. coli and she'd only known of strep-related infections from being a strep throat carrier as a child. Jen’s story highlights the importance of self-advocacy and of identifying the bacteria underlying UTIs to seek appropriate treatment.
