Cancer is steadily becoming one of the leading causes of death across the East African region, as countries grapple with a growing burden of non-communicable diseases and limited access to advanced treatment technologies. Health experts say the rising number of cancer cases is increasing pressure on health systems that are still largely structured to deal with infectious diseases. At the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, officials on Friday unveiled the advanced TrueBeam Radiotherapy System, one of the most sophisticated cancer treatment platforms currently available globally. The commissioning of new state-of-the-art radiotherapy system in Kenya has been welcomed by health professionals across the region as a major boost in the fight against cancer.
