In OCC 2026 Quest for Truth roundtable, leading experts from China and the United States gather to discuss “Cardiomyopathy: From Misdiagnosis to Precision Medicine”. The session is hosted by Prof. Gang Wu, MD, PhD, Department of Cardiology, Shanghai General Hospital, and co-hosted by Prof. Zeping Qiu, MD, PhD, Department of Cardiology, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Quest for Truth is honored to welcome two distinguished guest speakers: Prof. Martin Maron, MD, PhD, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center and Research Institute, Tufts Medical Center; and Prof. Wei Jin, MD, PhD, Department of Cardiology, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
The roundtable focuses on “Cardiomyopathy: From Misdiagnosis to Precision Medicine”, with in-depth discussions on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) diagnosis and management, genetic testing, cardiac myosin inhibitors, real-world clinical experience, patient-centered treatment decisions, HCM Centers of Excellence, specialist training, and future directions in precision cardiovascular care.
They discuss China’s early real-world experience with aficamten in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Early data suggest rapid reductions in LVOT gradients and cardiac biomarkers, along with improvements in functional status and quality of life, without a significant decline in left ventricular ejection fraction during the observed study period.
Prof. Martin Maron also highlights China’s growing role in global HCM research and innovation, noting that early approval and real-world evidence generation reflect major progress in cardiovascular care. Experts further discuss the potential of aficamten beyond obstructive HCM, including its possible role in non-obstructive HCM and selected HFpEF populations.
