Symptoms
Pain
Irritation around the anus
Swelling
Pus discharge (yellow or green liquid)
Fever
Feeling generally unwell
Causes Bacterial infection of the anal canal, Inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease, Trauma, and Cancerous origins.
Treatment Surgery to open and drain the abscess, Antibiotics, and Sitz baths to relieve pain and reduce swelling.
Surgery
Usually done as an outpatient procedure
Surgeon cuts open the abscess and drains the pus
Sometimes a drain is put in to keep the incision open and draining
Sometimes the abscess cavity is packed with gauze
After surgery Pain control, Laxatives to avoid constipation, Instructions on sitz baths, and Follow up until there is complete healing
