Understanding Advanced Cardiac Imaging

Riverside cardiologist, Zachariah Nealy, M.D., discussed the advances in cardiac imaging and how it can help physicians better diagnose and treat patients with heart disease. Dr. Nealy explains how cardiac echo, or echocardiogram, is largely used to see the motion of the heart, including its valves. He discusses how cardiac CT is able to do multiple things, including show potential blockages inside the blood vessels and can very precisely show the damage inside the blood vessels. It is also used in calculating a calcium score, which can predict future risk of heart attack. He also notes that cardiac MRI is able to help physicians diagnose multiple conditions such as heart failure or determine if a patient could benefit from a stent.
