Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) occurs when fats, cholesterol, and other substances build up on the artery walls, narrowing them and reducing blood flow to the heart muscle. One of the treatments for this disease is called Shockwave. This specialized balloon breaks down calcium deposits in the heart leading that helps to open up these narrowed areas improving blood flow and creating a wider opening for a stent. Check out this video with WellSpan Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Rhian Davies.
