Mohammad Abdel Jawad, MD, a Research Fellow, and James H. O’Keefe, MD, a Staff Cardiologist and Head of Preventive Cardiology at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, and University of Missouri-Kansas City, in Kansas City, MO, share insights from their article appearing in the December 2024 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where they found their results to be confirmatory of previous studies that demonstrated the benefits of Omega-3 dietary supplementation as a preventative defense against heart failure and related cardiovascular disease. Dr. O’Keefe notes there is some caution regarding the use of high doses of Omega-3 in relation to atrial fibrillation but recommends patients can benefit from this simple dietary addition to their regular food regimen.
