Alan Rozanski, MD, Director for Nuclear Cardiology at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in New York, NY, Shares insights from his article appearing in the May 2025 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, regarding mortality risk factors following cardiac imaging stress testing. The study found mortality risk increased stepwise with the number of cardiac risk factors and comorbidities, but only among patients requiring pharmacologic stress testing. For patients completing exercise treadmill testing, mortality risk remained low (less than 1% per year) regardless of risk factor/comorbidity burden, highlighting a strong protective health effect associated with maintaining exercise capacity among patients referred for cardiac stress testing.
