Percheron Therapeutics Ltd (ASX:PER, OTC:PERCF) CEO Dr James Garner talked with Proactive about the company’s latest milestone — final results from the Phase I clinical trial of its cancer drug candidate, HMBD-002.

Garner confirmed the study achieved its primary objective, demonstrating a favourable safety profile in 48 patients with advanced cancers. The treatment was assessed both as a monotherapy and in combination with an existing cancer therapy. “The drug passed all these hurdles, ticked every box,” said Garner, who called the results “tremendously reassuring.”

Only a small minority — fewer than 10% — of patients experienced any significant side effects. Even these were described as potentially related to the underlying cancer itself, rather than the treatment. “This is about as clean a bill of health as we could get,” said Garner.

The company is now preparing for a Phase II trial, scheduled to begin in the 2026 calendar year. Unlike the first trial, which focused on safety, the upcoming study will evaluate HMBD-002’s efficacy more directly. Garner noted that early signs of activity were observed in Phase I, despite the study not being powered for efficacy assessment.
