This ability keeps us from developing cancer. However, when this power weakens, new cells form and old cells are destroyed at an accelerated rate, leading to an increase in faulty cells. The body has a mechanism, called the scavenging mechanism, to identify and eliminate these faulty cells, but if it fails, these cells can continue to multiply, becoming cancer.
