Michelle Carpentier, MSN, RN, OCN, a finalist for the 2025 Cancer Nursing Today CARE Award, speaks about her background, her work as the director for Outpatient Oncology Infusion and Clinics at UMass Memorial Medical Center, and what it means to be named a finalist.
About Michelle Carpentier, MSN, RN, OCN
Michelle obtained her BSN from Rhode Island College in 1999 and earned her MSN from University of Rhode Island in 2011. She started her career as an RN on an inpatient oncology unit and frequently served in the role of charge nurse.
A nursing director saw leadership potential in Michelle and encouraged her to seek out her first manager role in 2005. From there, Michelle was then promoted to the role of outpatient director of cancer services in 2012.
Michelle currently serves as the director for Outpatient Oncology Infusion and Clinics at UMass Memorial Health and has worked there since January 2018.
Michelle’s nominator on why she deserves the CARE Award:
“Michelle has held the ambulatory cancer center together … she has taken on numerous job roles and done so gracefully. She never makes anyone feel as though they are not important, despite the amount of her own work she needs to get done. She works long hours, is often here after everyone else has called it a day, and does so with grace, style and a smile. The cancer center as a whole, from the secretaries to the providers, look to Michelle for her compassionate leadership and expertise in cancer care.”
