Side Effects of Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy

1. Side Effects of Radiotherapy:

Local Skin Issues: Redness, dryness, peeling, or blistering of the skin at the treatment site.

Fatigue: Persistent tiredness and weakness.

Difficulty Swallowing (Dysphagia): If the larynx or throat is treated.

Hoarseness or Voice Changes: Temporary or permanent.

Dry Mouth (Xerostomia): Due to damage to salivary glands.

Loss of Taste: Temporary or permanent.

Radiation Fibrosis: Stiffness and reduced mobility of neck muscles.


2. Side Effects of Chemotherapy:

Nausea and Vomiting: Common with many chemo drugs.

Hair Loss: Temporary in most cases.

Fatigue and Weakness: Due to anemia or general toxicity.

Immunosuppression: Increased risk of infections due to low white blood cell count.

Mouth Sores: Painful ulcers in the mouth.

Loss of Appetite: Weight loss and malnutrition.

Neuropathy: Numbness or tingling in hands and feet.

Organ Damage: In some cases, chemo can affect the heart, kidneys, or liver.
