Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer में Surgery कैसे होती है? Step by Step EXPLAINED! | Dr Praveen Kammar, Mumbai
What is Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer?
Stage 3 ovarian cancer is the most commonly diagnosed stage. At this stage, the cancer may have spread beyond the ovaries, either to lymph nodes or throughout the abdominal lining. Understanding its treatment is crucial for patients and families.
What’s the difference between Stage 3A, 3B, and 3C?
Stage 3A usually involves retroperitoneal lymph nodes near the aorta and vena cava. Stage 3B and 3C involve peritoneal metastasis, where cancer spreads through the abdominal lining, sometimes reaching the diaphragm.
What is the goal of Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer Surgery?
The primary aim is to remove all visible disease in the abdomen. Research shows that minimal or no residual disease after surgery leads to better outcomes and improved survival rates.
How is Stage 3A Ovarian Cancer surgery done?
Surgery involves removing the uterus, both fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Lymph nodes in the pelvis and retroperitoneum up to the renal vessels are carefully cleared to ensure complete disease removal.
How is Stage 3B & 3C surgery different?
Surgery is more extensive due to peritoneal metastasis. Both the parietal and visceral peritoneum are removed, and if cancer is attached to organs, parts of the rectum, sigmoid colon, stomach, right colon, or spleen may need to be resected.
What is Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS)?
CRS is the combination of multiple organ and peritoneal resections tailored to each patient. The extent of surgery affects recovery time and cost but aims for almost no residual disease.
