Yelena Janjigian, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, discusses updated event-free survival (EFS) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) from the MATTERHORN study (NCT04592913), evaluating perioperative durvalumab plus FLOT in patients with resectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma. Results showed durvalumab did not compromise surgery feasibility or increase severe toxicity, while improving event-free survival by 29%. Patient-reported outcomes and quality of life were similar between arms, supporting global feasibility. These findings suggest adding durvalumab could become a practice-changing approach for early-stage disease, benefiting patients worldwide without additional quality-of-life burden. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancer 2025 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
